While resting from working on a P&I piece, I found myself observing my surroundings wondering what it would be like if I were to see life in shades of black and white? I meant this to be taken literally and metaphorically. Naturally black is the absence of color; therefore, in reality it is simply variances in white. Metaphorically, I could see life where black would represent the contrary or opposing aspects if not the absence of an aspect. White would represent the mainstream, the accepted or morally correct, etc. etc. If a picture could tell a thousand words what would one read into it if it were in black and white, and the reader was opened to the possibilities of the subtle nature of the various tones?
[Thought] "There is nothing in the dark that wasn't already there in the light." [Some quote that I heard or read, I can't remember from where.] If we open our minds, do we see more of the whole picture?
Do you see conflict in high contrast images or do you see opposites uniting in order to create harmony?
Do you see the underexposed as darkened, lost souls, or as the shades of reality that help to maintain this fragile structure we call reality?
Do you manipulate an image to better suit your own ideals, or to better illustrate or clarify the image's presented ideals?
